In a week where the Wayne High baseball team played four games in five days, three were on their home diamond.
Back at Hank Overin Field in Wayne, the Blue Devils welcomed York on Friday.
A handful of runs catapulted the Blue Devils ahead late in the game to win 6-2 improving to 9-5. WHS has now won back-to-back while the Class B Dukes fell to 6-5 dropping four of their past five games.
WHS finished 3-1 on the week with a Monday win at GACC/West Point-Beemer (4-3) along with a home loss to Mount Michael Benedictine on Tuesday (2-1) moved up from April 12 followed by home wins over St. Paul/Palmer on Thursday (11-1) and Friday’s victory over York (6-2).
Wayne High began the game with a single run in the home half of the first. Senior Calvin Ankeny reached safely on an error scoring sophomore Jaxson Kneifl.
York quickly answered plating their only two runs of the game in the top of the second.
Following back-to-back scoreless innings, WHS erupted for a five-run fifth. Sophomore Adrian Contreras first reached on an error soring senior Brayden Rajaee-Hallgren, junior Brodey Munter then scored on a passed ball, Kneifl followed by reaching safely off another error allowing Contreras to score, Kneifl also crossed the plate by stealing home on a pick-off attempt to first base and the inning ended thanks to a RBI base hit from junior Drew Reinhardt driving in senior Gavin Redden.
Final favored Wayne High winning 6-2 despite being outhit, 7-3. York committed six errors compared to one error by the Blue Devils.
Drew Reinhardt singled and drove in a run as Brodey Munter singled and scored.
Sophomore Chase Sturm singled; Jaxson Kneifl accounted for a RBI and two runs scored; Adrian Contreras added a RBI and run scored as Gavin Redden and Brayden Rajaee-Hallgren both scored.
Kneifl (49 pitches) picked up the win in three innings of scoreless relief allowing three hits while walking two batters. Contreras (79) started the opening four innings allowing two earned runs off four hits while striking out two batters, walking three and hitting one.
