Wayne track & field shows improvement against talented field

With an incoming storm causing a few events to be canceled, Wayne High varsity track & field competitors traveled to Elkhorn for weekday action still making the most of it.

From Elkhorn High School, the Blue Devils joined 11 other girls and 12 other boys teams during the Kruger May Invite.

The Wayne High girls finished 10th with 13 points while the Blue Devil boys placed 12th with nine points. Head coach Jacob Daum stated it was another great day with plenty of personal records set for the Blue Devils against top level competition.

Due to storms, the final five running events were canceled being the boys 300-meter hurdles as well as the girls and boys 200-meter finals, 1600-meter run, 4×100-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay.

In the girls division, Elkhorn South won the invite with 104 points, Gretna followed in runner-up (72), Bellevue West took third (61), Elkhorn placed fourth (58) and Elkhorn North rounded out the top five teams with 52 points.

Junior Elle Powicki earned a bronze medal in the 100-meter hurdles (15.62) while fellow junior Nyla Bolles took fifth in the pole vault (8′ 8″) and sixth in the 400-meter run (1:01.13).

During the boys division, Elkhorn South won the invite with 94 points, Gretna East followed in runner-up (70.5), Bellevue West took third (65), Lincoln Pius X placed fourth (45) and Elkhorn North rounded out the top five teams with 42 points.

Junior Grant Maas placed fourth in the pole vault (13′).

The 4×800-meter relay team of junior Drew Miller, sophomore Emmanuel Gonzalez, sophomore Thomas Raymundo Bacillio and senior Kasen York collected a fifth place finish (8:45.48).
