Wayne track teams see action at Schuyler meet

The Wayne High boys track and field team finished second and the girls placed fourth in Thursday’s Fred Arnold Invitational in Schuyler.

In boys action, Wayne scored very well in the field events, as Grayson McBride swept the jumping events with firsts in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Cody Rogers was third in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump, Mason Lee took second in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump, and Jack Evetovich was fourth in the high jump.

Christian Rogers also came away with a win for the Wayne boys, taking first in the 200 to go with his runner-up finish in the 100.

Wayne scored well in the relays, with seconds in the 1,600 and 3,200 and a third in the 400. Kaden Kneifl was fifth in the shot put and discus, Will Anderson was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, and Tyler Pecena and RJ Liska finished third and sixth, respectively, in the 400.

Kylie Hammer had a dominant day to lead the Blue Devil ladies, winning the 200-meter dash, long jump and triple jump. She also anchored the winning 1,600-meter relay.

Jenna Trenhaile and Gabi Meyer both finished with firsts in the discus and 800-meter run, respectively. Meyer also had a sixth in the 400.

Wayne scored in all three relays, including a fifth in the 400 and a sixth in the 3,200. Sidney Biggerstaff was third in the 100 hurdles, Kelsey Boyer finished fourth in the 300 hurdles, Kennedy Maly was sixth in the pole vault and Shania Anderson tied for sixth in the high jump.

Several Wayne athletes are expected to compete in the Northeast Nebraska Classic next Thursday in Norfolk. Wayne will host the Mid State Conference meet next Saturday, April 29, at Kern Stadium.
