Wayne track teams smoked out in Elkhorn

In an unusual circumstance, a track and field meet has been called on account of smoke.

Wayne High athletic director Rocky Ruhl told The Wayne Herald that Thursday's scheduled track meet in Elkhorn has been called off, due to smoke from prairie fires in northeast Kansas that has made its way into the Omaha area.

The heavy smoke has forced a number of school districts in the Omaha-Lincoln metropolitan area to keep students indoors, due to poor air quality as a result of the Kansas fires.

Ruhl said that the Elkhorn Invitaitonal track meet will not be rescheduled. The Wayne High track team will now go to Homer today for the Homer Invitaitonal.
