Wayne Unified wins District, advances to state

After putting in the work during their four regular season outings in November, the Wayne High Unified Bowling program was showcased in postseason play on the first day in December .

From Wildcat Lanes in Wayne on Dec. 1, the Blue Devils won the B-3 District Championship to qualify for State Unified Bowling with a team high pin fall of 825, which was a season-best.

State qualifying team members are Graycen Trautman, Lily Gubbels, Brady Colfack, Payton Junck and Ben Haschke.

Omaha Nation was runner up with a pin fall of 657. 

Wayne recorded scores in their six games of 143, 141, 142, 168, 122 and 109 with an average score of 137.5.

Other Unified Bowling teams joining Wayne and Omaha Nation were Osmond, O'Neill, Winnebago, Plainview, Randolph and Ponca.

Wayne qualified for the 2025 Unified Sports Bowling State Championships set for Monday, Dec. 8 at Sun Valley Lanes & Games in Lincoln.

Other District champions for Class B joining Wayne Unified Bowling at state will be Humphrey (B-1), Auburn (B-2) and York (B-5) while the B-4 and B-6 Districts were scheduled for Dec. 3. Two additional wildcard teams will also qualify for state.

Opening ceremonies will start at 8 a.m. followed by a seeding round at 8:30 a.m. First round action followed by semifinals games will begin at 10 a.m. Following a noon break, the Class B state championship match will begin at 1:30 p.m. followed by Class A.

Awards will also follow each finals match.

Wayne High Unified Bowling welcomed teams on Nov. 1 and Nov. 18 while also traveling to Norfolk on Nov. 8 and to South Sioux City on Nov. 25.
