Wayne varsity bowling sweeps Norfolk Catholic, JV teams return with six medalists and runner-up trophies

A second straight Thursday in January put the Wayne varsity bowling teams back on their home lanes while the JV teams took to Lincoln.

From Wildcat Lanes in Wayne, the Blue Devils welcomed Norfolk Catholic.

Earlier in the season both Wayne varsity teams won 19-2 at Norfolk Catholic on December 5 to open the season.

In the girls dual,  Wayne would bowl well all night and win the match 20-1.

During the first game, Wayne was led by Lindsay Niemann (207), Graycen Trautman (183), Madi Janke (183), Sammi Gubbels (160) and Regan Fernau (116). Game two scoring leaders were Sammi Gubbels (210), Graycen Trautman / Rylin Hall (189), Madi Janke (164), Lindsay Niemann (139) and Regan Fernau (130).

In the boys dual, Wayne High would go on to win the overall match 20-1.

Game one scoring leaders were by Konnor Kai (236) followed by Aiden Petersen (216), Ben Haschke (179), Jamison Meher (173) and Dylan Jensen (145). Game two was much the same as Wayne would win all eight of the points.  Leading the way for Wayne in game two was Aiden Petersen (200), followed by Alex Rodriguez (179), Konnor Kai (179), as well as Jamison Meyer / Blake Smith (175).

Also, the Wayne High junior varsity bowling teams traveled to Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln on Thursday for the Lincoln Pius X junior varsity tournament.  The tournament showcased 16 boys teams and 10 girls teams and included three games of qualifying which set up bracket play.

Both JV teams earned runner-up finishes. Individual medalists for the JV girls were McKaeya Becker (first), Rylin Hall (fourth) and Madi Korth (sixth) as the Wayne JV boys were led by Blake Smith (first), Zane Sievers (third) and Lucas Allemann (ninth).

Head Wayne High bowling coach Josh Johnson said, “both teams played extremely well today (Thursday). It was really fun to watch the grow and gain confidence. They were disappointed with the runner-up but it was a great day.”

On the girls side, the Blue Devils would play steady all day.  Game one turned out to be Wayne’s best shooting 628.  Scoring for Wayne in that match was McKaeya Becker (172), Rylin Hall (135), Madi Korth (118), Samantha Wright (115) and Marie Allemann (88).

Game two ended up pretty similar as Wayne posted a team score of 611.  Scoring for Wayne was Madi Korth (145), McKaeya Becker (137), Rylin Hall (137), Rylee Durant (105) and Samantha Wright (87).

Game three was another steady game for Wayne while shooting 600.  Scoring in game 3 was McKaeya Becker (145), Rylin Hall (135), Madi Korth (127), Marie Alleamnn (112) and Lilliana Culy (81).

After three games of qualifying, the Blue Devils were sitting in third place.  Wayne would come out winning their first bracket match and then would win match two in an exciting manner.  McKaeya Becker’s double would seal the deal for the Blue Devils.

In the finals however, Wayne would not be able to find the line. The host, Lincoln Pius X would go on to win the best of three final’s match.

During JV boys competition, Wayne began the day red hot shooting a team score of 925.  The Blue Devils were led by Blake Smith (257) followed by Zane Sivers (209), Lucas Allemann (170), Brodrick Tiedtke (168) and Carlyle Young (121).

Game two was more of a struggle as the Blue Devils fought through the oil.  Game two had the Blue Devils only shoot 769.  Zane Sievers (205) led the way followed by Blake Smith (192), Lucas Allemann (145), Tyler Johnson (120) and Mahlik Campbell (107).

The third and final game, the Blue Devils found their groove once more.  Wayne High score was 859 and good enough to push Wayne into the #1 seed.  Scoring for Wayne in game three was Blake Smith (247), Zane Sievers (210), Lucas Allemann (190), Brodrick Tietdke (137) and Tyler Johnson (111).

In bracket play the Blue Devil boys would go on to defeat Omaha Burke, Millard West and Papillion La-Vista to reach the Championship match.  The Blue Devils would fall to Fremont in two games to receive runner-up honors.
