Four local schools took over Wednesday, April 23 among a well-attended Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Junior High track & field Invite.
No team scoring was posted in results shared from the LCC Junior High Invite where Wayne, Wakefield, Winside and LCC were highlighted.
During the girls division, Wayne seventh grader Penelope Zavada Cupp won the 100-meter dash (13.57) and 200-meter dash (28.72) while eighth grader Tayla Hurner won the 1200-meter run (4:14.56) and 800-meter run (2:35.15). Also, the eighth grade 4×400 relay of Sienna Lipp, Lilly Redden, Elizabeth Hix and Tayla Hurner crossed the line first (4:45.87).
Zavada Cupp took second in the 100-meter hurdles (19.44), Sienna Lipp finished runner-up in the 400-meter dash (1:12.06), eighth grader Alex Ziska placed second in the discus (71′ 8″) followed by teammate Hannah Hank in third (66′ 1″).
Seventh graders Hadley Dunklau (4:22.18) and Sarah Kuchta (4:27.85) finished second and third in the 1200-meter run along with a sixth place finish by seventh grader Rose Kaup (4:30.38).
Seventh grader Ady Hays placed second in the 800-meter run (2:48.39) followed by eighth grader Lilly Redden (2:50.54) in third as well as seventh graders Sarah Kuchta (2:51.78) and Rose Kaup (2:52.79) in fourth and fifth.
Eighth grader Hannah Hank took third in the shot put (26′ 1 1/2″) along with teammates Reagan Heithold in fifth (24′ 7 1/2″) and Alex Ziska in sixth (24′ 4″).
Lipp posted a fourth place mark in the high jump (4′ 6″) as Hurner tied for sixth (4′ 4″).
Chloe Kai placed fourth in the triple jump (27′) followed by Reagan McManigal in fifth (26′ 11″) as Hays took fifth in the long jump (12′ 10″).
In relays, the 4×400 seventh graders of Chloe Kai, Sarah Kuchta, Rose Kaup and Hadley Dunklau finished third (4:57.22) and the 4×100 seventh graders of Lorelai Sorenson, Neveah Hanson, Ady Hays and Penelope Zavada Cupp placed fifth (58.51).
In the boys division, top Wayne Junior High results showcased several bronze medals.
Eighth grader Jacob Fehringer placed third in the 1200-meter run (3:59.36), eighth grader Cash Tili finished third in the shot put (35′ 4″), eighth grader Rager Remyngon took third in the discus (95′ 11″), eighth grader Brayden Stegemann collected a third place mark in the high jump (5′) followed by teammates Logan Walling (t-4th – 4′ 10″) and Colston Starzl (sixth – 4′ 10″). Starzl also placed third in the triple jump (34′ 3″) followed by teammate Chase Rethwisch in fourth (32′ 11 1/2″).
Seventh grader Hudson Willrich took third in the 100-meter hurdles (18.72) along with teammate Louie Severson placed fifth (20.18).
In relays, 4×100 eighth graders of Colston Starzl, Mason Kramer, Jacob Francis and Logan Walling placed fourth (54.76) and the 4×100 seventh graders of Louie Severson, Hudson Willrich, Evan Bose and Mason Wendte followed in fifth (56.27).
The Wayne Junior High girls and boys track & field team will next travel to Albion for the Mid State Conference meet on Saturday April 26.
Wakefield was led by eighth grader Colt Johnson winning the boys 200-meter hurdles (28.68) as well as eighth grader Maci Kratke winning the girls triple jump (31′ 3″).
Winside’s top champion came from eighth grader Aftyn Schutt during the girls shot put (29′ 4″).
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge leaders were eighth grader Kloie Ferris winning the girls 100-meter hurdles (18.2) and the girls 200-meter hurdles (32.43) as eighth grader James Recob won the boys discus (104′ 9″).
