Wayne wins Friday wrestling invite

With back-to-back wrestling invites on the schedule, the Wayne High girls wrestling team traveled to Elgin to open the weekend.

From Elgin, the Blue Devil girls joined 20 other teams during the Elgin Public-Pope John Girls Invite.

The Wayne High girls were crowned invite champs with 174 points.

Head girls wrestling coach from Wayne, Jason Trautman said, “this was also Yessenia Alba’s final high school competition due to early graduation. The girls rallied together to ensure that she went out on top.”

Among the 16 in action, Wayne High was led by individual champions being Essynce Owens-Webb (100); Nyla Bolles (135) and Ivette Ozuna (145) as Lupita Alba (105) and Janelly Lucas (235) both took runner-up.

Edmy Balux (115), Alexa Chavez (140) and Kadence Rees (155) all placed third as Yessenia Alba (110) and Jasmine (Contreras (235) both finished fourth.

Other points came from Serenity Heil-Ellis (125) with 10 points and Megan Magnuson (130) tallied six points.

Also in action was Andrea Bacilio (100), Macy Wilson (120), Sidney Nelson (135) and Kayleigh Graybeal (140).
