For the second time this week the Wayne High girls golf program competed on the course.

From Elkhorn Valley Acres in Stanton, WHS competed in the Stanton Invite on Thursday.

The Blue Devils finished with a third invite championship victory after shooting 377. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge followed in second with a 412.

Head coach Josh Johnson of Wayne High said, “today (Thursday) was tough at times. These girls are so competitive, so days like this are really hard on them. I am impressed how they continue to grind it out each day and continue to work hard. We just need to stay loose and move on to the next shot — forget the last / past.  Golf can be really humbling, we need to remember it is a lot of fun too.”

In the individual portion of the tournament, Carli Canham continued her hot play by shooting a team best 91 to lead Wayne.

Canham and Clara Brummels from LCC began the sudden death round to break the first place tie. Both girls would travel to hole one as Canham would put her chip to within three inches for a tap in par as Brummels was unable to get up and down and Canham became the 2024 Stanton Invite champion.

Other top medalists for Wayne came from Joslyn Johnson (third) and Charli Sievers (fourth) tied at 93, Hallie Heithold (fifth at 100) and Lindsay Niemann (sixth at 101). In JV play, Rylynn Owen went on to shoot 119.

The Wayne High girls golf team will next compete on Monday Sept. 16 when they travel to Battle Creek for an invite.
