Two northeast Nebraska schools separated by about 10 miles went to work on a Tuesday night.
From the main gym in Wakefield, Wayne High visited Wakefield.
The Wayne High girls won 52-11 while the Blue Devil boys won 48-31.
In the girls game, Wayne held a 9-2 lead after the first quarter followed by a Blue Devil 13-4 advantage in the second quarter. Wayne High led 22-6 at the break. Second half scoring favored Wayne in the third quarter, 10-2 and fourth 20-3. Final favored Wayne High winning 52-11.
Wayne High was led in scoring by junior Haley Kramer with 17 points followed by junior Claire Lutter and sophomore Addison Frank (three made three’s) both with nine points.
Other scoring came from sophomore Lily Gubbels and sophomore Alexis Legler both with four points; sophomore Mallory Redden tallied three points as two-point scoring came from freshman Kinnley McGuire, junior Elle Powicki and junior Reagan McGuire.
The Blue Devils shot 6-8 from the foul line as Wayne made six three-pointers.
Wakefield leaders were led by three points each from senior Alli Brown, junior Ashlyn Riewer and sophomore Boston Brown. Sophomore Montse Avila scored two points.
The Trojans finished 4-14 at the charity stripe.
During the boys outing, Wayne used a 15-10 advantage in the first quarter and followed with a 10-1 second to go up 25-11 at the break. Both teams scored seven points in the third quarter as the Blue Devils then outscored Wakefield 16-13 in the fourth. Final favored Wayne High winning 48-31.
Wayne High was led in scoring by sophomore Jaxson Kneifl (two made three’s) with 12 points, senior Gavin Redden followed with 10 points as junior Jace Jorgensen tallied nine points.
Other scoring came from senior Colson Nelsen with eight points, two-point scoring was posted by senior Kaden Keller, sophomore Chase Nelson, freshman Theo Claussen and senior Brayden Rajaee-Hallgren as senior Nacho Dias scored a point.
The Blue Devils shot 10-20 from the foul line.
Wakefield leaders were junior Cael Johnson with 12 points as junior Jacob Borg added eight points.
Other scoring came from junior Jacob Birkley with six points (two made three’s), junior Brandon Paredes tallied three points as senior Jesse Lundahl had two points.
The Trojans finished 3-8 at the charity stripe.
The Wayne High girls and boys will next host Wahoo while Wakefield will visit Battle Creek both on Friday, Dec. 13.
