Wayne, Winside Track & Field combines for 10 event wins

In-between a pair of home invites, the Wayne High girls and boys track & field team took to the road for weekend invite action and were joined by Winside.

From Wisner-Pilger High School in Wisner, the Blue Devils were among 10 varsity and nine JV girls and 10 varsity and nine JV boys teams on Saturday during the 2025 Booster/Lions Club Invite.

The Wayne High varsity girls finished third with 73 points while the Blue Devil boys took third with 80 points. In JV action, the Wayne girls totaled two points for ninth and Wayne JV boys won their division with 83 points.

For Winside, the girls earned ninth with 17 points as the Winside boys placed 10th with 14 points.

In the girls varsity division, Pierce won the Wisner-Pilger invite with 153.5 points, the host Wisner-Pilger followed in runner-up (101), Wayne took third (73), Lutheran High Northeast placed fourth (42) and North Bend Central rounded out the top five teams with 40 points.

Junior Elle Powicki won the 100-meter hurdles (15.8) and crossed the line in sixth during the 100-meter dash (13.44), junior Nyla Bolles won both the 400-meter dash (1:02.85) and 800-meter run (2:38.04) as sophomore Addison Frank won the pole vault (8′ 6″) for the Blue Devil girls.

Freshman Alivia Kesting finished third in the 800-meter run (2:40.2) and junior Lilyan Hurner finished third in the 1600-meter run (6:25.22).

Freshman Kamden Dobbins took fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:08.19) and fifth in high jump (4′ 6″), junior Josie Ley placed fifth in the 3200-meter run (15:10.1) and junior Jacen Hasemann placed fifth in the long jump (14′ 11″) and sixth in the triple jump (30′ 4 1/2″).

In relays, the 4×400 of Bolles, Kesting, freshman Anna Dutcher and Powicki finished runner-up (4:28.73), the 4×800 of Hurner, Ley, junior Kennasyn Blecke and Dutcher took fifth (12:10.53) as the 4×100 of Dobbins, junior Clara Ankeny, Frank and senior Rylin Hall placed sixth (57.51).

The Winside girls were led by sophomore Hadleigh Schutt who won the shot put (35′ 1″) and placed sixth in the discus (105′ 4″).

Sophomore Katelyn Jaeger finished fourth during the 3200-meter run (15:02.85) as sophomore Adrianna Miller took fifth in the 1600-meter run (6:47.08).

During the JV division, the Humphrey-Lindsay girls won against Pierce, 105-68.

Wayne’s lone points came from freshman Courtney Roeber taking fifth in the 200-meter dash (31.25).

During the boys division, Stanton won the Wisner-Pilger invite with 109 points, Pierce followed in runner-up (92), Wayne took third (80), Oakland-Craig placed fourth (68) and Logan View rounded out the top five teams with 36 points.

Junior Grant Maas won the pole vault (12′ 6″) to lead the Blue Devil boys along with sophomore Emmanuel Gonzalez in runner-up during the 3200-meter run (11:27.67).

Junior Drew Miller placed third in the 1600-meter run (5:10.81), senior Kasen York posted a third pace finish in the 800-meter run (2:10.45) and was fourth in the 1600-meter run (5:15.43), junior Boden Dobbins earned a third place time in the 400-meter dash (56.23), junior Taven Ocampo took third in the 100-meter dash (11.57) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (47.57) along with sophomore Cole Zach in sixth during the 100-meter dash (11.87).

Senior Ignacio Salemeron Diaz (fifth – 57.68) and sophomore Daevin Casarrubias (sixth – 59.57) both earned points in the 400-meter dash. Casarrubias also took sixth in the 200-meter dash (25.13).

Sophomores Landen Claussen (fifth – 12:11.86) and Lance Brink (sixth – 12:28.12) each earned points in the 3200-meter run.  Sophomore Thomas Raymundo Baillio took fifth in the 1600-meter run (5:18.47) and sixth in the 800-meter run (2:18.15).

Sophomore Gabriel Armstrong posted a fifth place mark in the long jump (18′ 3 3/4″) as Cole Zach took fifth in the high jump (5′ 6″).

In relays, the 4×800 of junior Drew Miller, sophomore Lance Brink, sophomore Alvaro Archundia and Raymundo Bacillio placed second (9:34.77), the 4×400 of Taven Ocampo, junior Jaxon Lindner, Salemeron Diaz and Gonzalez finished third (3:59.22) as the 4×100 of sophomore Cole Zach, junior Austin Heiser, Grant Maas and Lindner took fourth (49.65).

The Winside boys were led by junior Caleb Offner with a second place mark in the discus (157′ 1 1/2″) along with a third place mark during the shot put (52′ 6 3/4″).

During the JV division Wayne edged Stanton, 83-78.

Freshman Angel Vargas Brizuela won the 110-meter hurdles (19.12), the 300-meter hurdles (46.29) and the long jump (18′ 10 1/2″). Sophomore Konnor Kai won the triple jump (38′ 4 3/4″) and placed runner-up in the 100-meter dash (12.19).

Freshman Denzel Ibarra finished third in the 400-meter dash (1:01.89), freshman Grady Maas took fourth in the 800-meter run (2:30.58), sophomore Cale Eischeid finished fifth in the 1600-meter run (6:09.74) and freshman Denzel Ibarra placed sixth in the long jump (16′ 5″).

The 4×800 relay of Grady Maas, sophomore Julian Garcia Morales, freshman Ethan Samuelson and Eischeid took runner-up (10:50.8) as did the 4×400 of Vargas Brizuela, freshman Kyler Parker, Ibarra and freshman Trecyn Ocampo (4:15.41). The 4×100 relay of Kai, freshman Bryce Wacker, freshman Carter Mostek and Trecyn Ocampo placed third (51.34).
