Wayne wrestlers qualify for Fargo, Naeve wins 145 pound Junior Freestyle

Four Wayne High wrestlers took their talents to the NEUSA State Freestyle Tournament this past weekend with top four finishers earning a spot to compete in Fargo, North Dakota.

From the Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Anna Naeve (145 lb) represented Norfolk Area Training Facility (NATF). She won her bracket to become a junior freestyle champion picking up wins over Lesliegh Lovings by fall (0:39) and again by tech fall (10-0/3:39) before picking up a championship win against Lovings by rule.

Three other Wayne wrestlers all finished third qualifying  for the 2025 Junior and 16U Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota July 10 - 19, 2025.

Essynce Owens-Webb (110 lb) wrestled for Nebraska Wrestling Academy (NWA) going 2-2. She won against Kensley Snodgrass by fall (1:44), lost to Natalie Cruz by fall (1:40), won against Aceley Hoff by fall (1:33) and fell to Dymond Green by fall (1:22).

Hannah Burris (130 lb) also represented NATF. She suffered losses by tech fall (10-0/2:25) to Grace Lindley and fall (5:35) to Kinley Condon.

Grant Maas (157 lb) competed for Wrestling With Character going 4-1. He began with a loss by tech fall (10-0/2:02) against Niko Rotella followed by wins over Jay Lyons by tech fall (11-0/0:31), Gavin Pedersen by tech fall (11-0/2:03) and Devin Nuttelman by tech fall (16-5/3:17). Grant Maas closed with a tie breaking win in decision (12-12) over Easton Hochstein.
