It was a successful debut for the Wayne High boys and girls wrestling teams Thursday as they defeated Summerland and host Wisner-Pilger to kick off the season.
In boys action, the Blue Devils beat Summerland 51-12 and outlasted Wisner-Pilger 45-33.
In the win over Summeralnd, Alex Frank (132) and Ashton Munsell (145) won matches by pin while freshman Grant Maas picked up a win at 138 pounds to highlight the Wayne effort.
Against the Gators, Munsell picked up a decision and Eli Barner got a defensive pin to help spark the Blue Devils. Frank ended the dual with a pin to clinch the team’s second win of the night.
In girls action, the Blue Devils outlasted Summerland 36-30 and beat Wisner-Pilger 36-18.
Raegan Maas came through with a second-period pin to highlight the Blue Devil girls’ win over Summerland. Wayne scored six forfeits in the win over Wisner-Pilger.
The wrestlers are in action Friday at Columbus Lakeview.
