Wayne Blue, Wayne White host rescheduled games
Following a one day rain delay, the Wayne Blue Broncos and Didgets were right back on their home diamond taking on Tilden along with Wayne White Broncos and Didgets entertaining Battle Creek #1 on June 17.
First up, the Wayne Blue Broncos won 22-6 to improve to 5-4 while the Blue Didgets picked up a 9-1 victory to now sit 7-2.
The Wayne White Broncos (7-2) won 15-11 while the White Didgets (7-2) dropped a 12-3 decision.
Top performers during the Blue Broncos outing: Julian Contreras recorded a two-run inside the park homerun, singled, tripled, drove in five total runs and scored twice; Mason Rhods singled three times, drove in three runs and scored four times as Heath Poland singled twice, drove in two runs and scored. Hudson Kramer (single, RBI) also scored four runs.
Cohen Woehler (51 pitches) accounted for the win in two innings of relief allowing four runs (one earned) while striking out three batters and walking six.
In the Blue Didgets contest, Emmett Johnson tripled and drove in a run while Crispen Ptacek added a single and RBI.
Lincoln Masters recorded the win in five innings while striking out 15 batters.
Top performers from the White Broncos game: Braden McManigal singled twice, doubled, drove in five runs and scored twice; Mason Nelson singled three times, drove in three runs and scored twice; Caysen Gamble singled three times, drove in three runs and scored as Ryan Loberg (two RBI, three runs scored) and Aiden Kesting (run) both doubled. Sy Chase (single) also scored three times.
Kesting (59 pitches) started the opening two and two-thirds allowing six runs (five earned) off six hits while striking out and walking two batters each.
During the White Didgets outing, Kirby Gubbels singled twice and scored as Brett DePew (single), Weston Nelson (run) and Wyatt Holz all drove in a run.
Gubbels (43 pitches) started the opening two and a third allowing four earned runs off six hits while striking out five batters.
On Wednesday, the Wayne Blue Didgets won 11-7 at Tri County in Emerson while in Wayne against Oakland-Craig Orange, the Wayne White Broncos lost 12-11 as the Wayne White Didgets won 7-3.
In a Blue Broncos game only, Wayne will visit Battle Creek #1 in a make-up game from earlier this season on June 19 at 7:45 p.m. (correction from the June 19 Wayne Herald, Wayne Blue Didgets were able to get their game in earlier this season at Battle Creek #1).
The Broncos and Didgets regular season will come to an end on Monday, June 23 at 6/7:45 p.m.. Wayne White Broncos and Didgets will be at North Bend Black as Wayne Blue Broncos and Didgets will host Pierce White.
Wayne Ponies weekend highlights
Even with their third place game being cut short, the Wayne Ponies still played four games in three days on their home diamond.
From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne Youth Baseball Tournament was held June 13 - 15.
Wayne started with a 17-7 win over Pierce on Friday followed by a Saturday split of a 13-3 victory against O'Neill Irish 14u before falling to Creighton, 10-7.
Wayne 14 finished second in Pool B. Since Logan View didn't have enough players to field a team after winning Pool A, second place Crofton was moved up in their spot. The Wayne Ponies captured a third place finish with no game played on Sunday.
Wayne also won 8-2 against Stanton Sunday evening during a Tri County League regular season game to improve to 12-1-1 overall and 9-0 in league play.
Leaders from all games were Colston Starzl (four singles, one double) and Kian Pick (two singles, two doubles and one homerun) both with five hits. Pick posted a team-high six RBI followed by Mason Wendte with five RBI. Starzl crossed the plate seven times along with Noah Magnuson adding six runs scored.
Wendite (113 pitches) pitched eight and two-thirds of the 25 total innings on the weekend appearing in three games and starting one. He allowed four runs (two earned) off seven hits while striking out 12 batters, walking one and hitting two.
Merrick Miller (79) worked five innings starting one game. He allowed three runs off two hits while striking out six batters.
The Wayne Ponies were scheduled to visit Ponca on June 16, but games were called off due to rain and will next visit Oakland-Craig on Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m. before competing in Wakefield this weekend during the Mid-Summer Classic. The Wayne Ponies will close out their Tri County League regular season on Sunday, June 22 vs. Tekamah-Herman Purple at 7 p.m.
Wayne Didgets compete in home tournament
With one more tournament on the schedule, members of the Wayne Blue and White Didget league teams makde up the inagural Wayne Didget Tournament team.
The Wayne Youth Baseball Tournament was held June 13 - 15 at the Summer Sports Complex.
Wayne dropped all three pool play games to start their season together at 0-3. Wayne lost 13-9 to Hartington Red and 12-5 against Crofton both on Friday before ending their tournament on Sunday with a 14-0 loss to Milford.
Wayne 10u leaders were Lincoln Nelson (two singles, two doubles) with four hits; Beckett Miller posted a team-high three RBI as Graham Sharpe and Lincoln Masters both crossed the plate four times.
Finn McElroy (78 pitches) pitched three innings of the 11 and two-thirds total starting one game. He allowed nine earned runs off 11 hits while striking out five batters, walking three and hitting one.
Sharpe (59) and Wyatt Holz (41) both worked two innings starting one game. Sharpe allowed six earned runs off four hits while striking out three batters and walking six as Holz allowed eight earned runs off seven hits while striking out one batter, walking one and hitting two.
The Wayne Didget Tournament team will play one more weekend tournament during the Mid-Summer Classic in Wakefield this weekend.
Wayne Broncos finish third in home tourney
Wayne Blue and White Bronco league teams provided players for the first games for the Wayne Bronco Tourney team at the Summer Sports Complex June 13 - 15.
During the Wayne Youth Baseball Tournament, Wayne finished third overall following a 3-1 weekend during their first games together.
Wayne 12u started with a 13-12 loss to Wisner on Friday followed by Saturday wins of 13-3 over North Bend and 15-6 against Logan View. On Sunday, the Wayne Broncos won 15-6 over Crofton to secure third place.
Leaders were Ayser Titiml (all singles) with seven hits followed by Gage Kimmel (four singles, two doubles), Ryan Loberg (two singles, three doubles, one triple) and Mason Nelson (all singles) all with six hits. Kimmel posted a team-high nine RBI along with Braden McManigal with seven RBI. Loberg crossed the plate 11 times as McManigal added eight runs scored.
Kimmel (89 pitches) pitched six innings of the 20 innings overall appearing in two games and starting one. He allowed three runs off three hits while striking out 11 batters, walking two and hitting one.
Mason Nelson (78) worked three and two-thirds starting one game. He allowed six runs (two earned) off three hits while striking out three batters and walking five.
The Wayne Broncos Tournament team will play one more weekend tournament during the Mid-Summer Classic in Wakefield this weekend.
Wayne Blue Broncos suffer June 13 loss
A third Tri County League game in five days featured the Wayne Blue Broncos on June 13.
With half of the team playing earlier in the evening alongside the Wayne White Broncos to create a Wayne Broncos Tournament Team, the Wayne Blue Broncos played a regular season league game later in the night on Friday.
From the Summer Sports Complex, Wayne Blue 12u suffered an 11-4 loss to Homer falling to 4-4.
During the Blue Broncos only outing, Mason Rhods doubled, drove in two runs and scored as Cohen Woehler doubled.
Ayser Titiml singled and scored three times; Hudson Kramer singled and drove in a run as Harley Poland, Heath Poland and Bradley Hanson all singled.
Titiml (74 pitches) started the opening three innings allowing five runs off three hits while striking out seven batters, walking two and hitting one.
Hanson (72) worked two and two-thirds allowing six runs (three earned) off two hits while striking out three batters and walking eight. Woehler (five) closed out the final third of an inning via strikeout.
Wayne Ponies win at Logan View
With more non-league games approaching for the Wayne Ponies, a Tri County League outing was on the docket on June 12.
From Hooper, Wayne 14u secured a 12-4 victory over Logan View and improved at the time to 9-0-1 overall/8-0 league play.
Mason Wendte singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice as Noah Magnuson and Colston Starzl both singled and scored twice.
Kash Haase and Liam Rockhill both singled and drove in a run; Kian Pick and Brayden Stegemann each singled and scored as Merrick Miller and Evan Greve both scored twice.
Starzl (58 pitches) started the opening three and two-thirds allowing four runs (two earned) off six hits while striking out five batters, walking one and hitting one. Miller (33) worked two and a third innings allowing three hits while striking out two batters, walking one and hitting one.
Wayne White Broncos, Didgets split road games
Wayne White Broncos and Didgets took to the road for a third straight doubleheader on Wednesday, June 11.
From Pierce White, the Wayne White Broncos dropped a 7-6 decision falling to 6-2 as the Wayne White Didgets won 7-5 to now sit 7-1 on the season.
In the Broncos contest, Gage Kimmel singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice as Caysen Gamble and Maxon Judd both singled twice and drove in two runs.
Braden McManigal singled twice and scored twice; Aiden Kesting singled as Mason Nelson and Ryan Loberg both scored.
Mason Nelson (73 pitches) started the opening four and a third allowing three earned runs off two hits while striking out seven batters and walking four. Loberg (46) worked two innings allowing four runs (two earned) off two hits while striking out five batters, walking three and hitting two.
During the Didgets outing, Kirby Gubbels singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Roydaine Wolf-Gibson singled twice, drove in a run and scored.
Weston Nelson singled, drove in a run and scored; Liam Heiser and Lincoln Nelson both singled and drove in a run; Isaac McPhillips and Beckett Miller both singled and scored; Conner Fox singled; Maxx Wohlers accounted for a RBI as Brett DePew scored.
McPhillips (24) started the opening inning allowing two earned runs while striking out one batter and walking two. Miller (17) followed the next inning allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out one batter. Wohlers (14) worked an inning allowing one run off one hit while striking out and walking one batter each.
Lincoln Nelson (10) pitched an inning striking out two batters. Baylen Biermann (21) came in for a third of an inning allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out one batter and walking three. Gubbels (23) closed out the final inning and two-thirds striking out four batters.

As the Tri County League youth baseball season inches closer to their postseason, the Wayne Blue Broncos and Didgets were back on their home diamond for mid-week action.
From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne Blue Broncos suffered a 9-8 loss falling to 4-3 while the Blue Didgets won 9-3 over Wisner improving to 6-2.
Games were played on Wednesday, June 11.
In the Broncos contest, Harley Poland doubled, tripled, drove in three runs and scored twice while Ayser Titiml singled twice and crossed the plate three times.
Hudson Kramer singled and drove in two runs; Trey Wardlow singled, drove in a run and scored as Mason Rhods scored twice.
Titiml (12) suffered the loss in the final inning and two-thirds allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out one batter.
Wardlow (59) started the opening three and a third allowing four runs (one earned) off two hits while striking out three batters, walking four and hitting one. Bradley Hanson (35) worked an inning allowing four runs (three earned) off four hits while striking out and walking two batters each.
During the Didgets game, Casey Shultheis went one-for-two with a triple and two RBI.
Jack Baxendale and Emmet Johnson both doubled.
Ryan Magnuson picked up the win in five innings allowing an earned run striking out 14 batters.
