Two of the Wayne youth baseball teams opened up tournament competition on their home diamond.
From the Summer Sports Complex, the rain-shortened Wayne Tournament showcased Pony and Bronco action on Saturday.
The Wayne Blue Ponies suffered losses of 14-6 to West Point and 16-6 against Logan View Blue now falling to 7-4 overall.
In the loss against West Point, West Point scored three runs in the first inning. Following a scoreless second, West Point used a 6-1 advantage in the third inning to lead 9-1. Wayne outscored West Point, 5-4 in the fourth as West Point scored once more in the fifth to win 14-6 and outhit the Wayne Blue Ponies, 14-8.
Grant Reeg, Trecyn Ocampo and Aiden Peterson all doubled, drove in a run and scored as Spencer Moormeier doubled.
Liam Rockhill singled, drove in a run and scored; Reece Ames singled and scored; Easton Gamble singled and drove in a run; Blake Smith singled as Kash Haase scored.
Peterson (82 pitches) suffered the loss in three innings allowing nine runs (seven earned) off seven hits while striking out six batters and walking three. Gamble (40) worked an inning and a third allowing five earned runs off seven hits while striking out one batter and walking two.
From the loss with Logan View Blue, Logan View Blue led 3-1 after the first inning. Following a scoreless second, both teams scored twice in the third, Logan View Blue added two more runs in the fourth and then used a 9-3 advantage in the fifth to win 16-6. Logan View Blue outhit the Wayne Blue Ponies, 14-11.
Peterson singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored; Ames singled, doubled and scored twice as Cale Eischeid and Ocampo both singled twice.
Haase singled, drove in a run and scored; Reeg singled and drove in two runs; Smith singled and scored as Rockhill scored.
Smith (104 pitches) suffered the loss in four and two-thirds allowing 13 earned runs off 13 hits while striking out five batters, walking four and hitting one. Haase (20) worked the final third of an inning allowing three runs (two earned) off one hit while striking out two batters and walking one.
The Wayne Bronco Tournament team (made up of Wayne Blue and White Tri County League players) suffered losses of 9-7 to Pender and 10-6 against Crofton starting their tourney season at 0-2.
In the loss against Pender, Pender led 4-3 after the first inning. Following a scoreless second, Pender added a run in the third and both teams scored four runs in the fourth. Final favored Pender winning 9-7 and winning the hit department, 5-3.
Brayden Stegemann singled, drove in a run and scored as Gage Kimmel and Kian Pick both singled and scored.
Hudson Kramer and Sy Chase both accounted for a RBI and run scored; Braden McManigal added a RBI as Isaiah Zarate and Drue Jensen both scored.
Blake Heithold (115 pitches) suffered the loss in five innings allowing nine runs (two earned) off five hits while striking out five batters, walking six and hitting one.
During the loss with Crofton, Crofton led 3-0 in the first inning followed by Wayne with four runs in the second. Crofton outscored Wayne, 4-2 in the third before scoring twice in the fourth and once in the fifth. Final favored Crofton winning 10-6 and winning the hit department, 7-5.

Kimmel singled and scored; Sy Chase singled; McManigal accounted for two RBI and a run scored as Zarate scored.

The Wayne Didget tournament team (mainly made up of Wayne Blue with a few Wayne White Tri County League players) were unable to play their games due to weather.
Due to weather, the Wayne Tournament had to cancel the remainder of their games due to weather and field conditions.
