Four games took over the final session on Saturday during the 2024 Elkhorn Valley Bank Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout Wayne Holiday Basketball Tournament.
From Rice Auditorium, the Pierce girls and boys took on Pender while the Wayne girls and boys faced the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and Plattsmouth boys in the winner’s bracket.
In the night cap, the Wayne girls won 48-35 against LCC while the Wayne boys secured a 67-38 victory over Plattsmouth in the battle of Blue Devils.
During the girls game, Wayne led 11-10 after the first quarter and added to their lead thanks to a 9-6 second to go up 20-16 at the break. The Blue Devil girls outscored Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, 14-10 in the third and 14-9 in the fourth. Final favored Wayne High winning 48-35 over LCC to improve to 4-4 as the Bears fell to 5-3.
Wayne High leaders were juniors Haley Kramer and Claire Lutter both with 11 points while sophomore Addison Frank added nine points.
Other scoring came from junior Elle Powicki with eight points, junior Reagan McGuire followed with five points as two-point scoring came from sophomores Alexis Legler and Mallory Redden.
The Blue Devils shot 6-12 from the foul line.
LCC was led in scoring by sophomore Kaida Eriksen with 12 points as senior Lainey Schutte followed with nine points.
Other scoring came from sophomore Carlie Kvols with eight points, sophomore Hattie McCorkindale tallied five points as sophomore Rena Rasmussen was held to one point.
The Bears finished 4-5 at the charity stripe.
From the boys outing, Wayne jumped ahead 20-7 in the first quarter and then used a 13-12 scoring clip in the second quarter to go up 33-19 at the half. WHS outscored Plattsmouth, 14-11 in the third and 20-8 in the fourth. Final favored Wayne High winning 67-38 to improve to 7-0 as Plattsmouth fell to 2-6.
Wayne High leaders were senior Colson Nelsen (three made three’s) with 17 points, junior Jace Jorgensen added 13 points, senior Gavin Redden followed with 12 points as sophomore Jaxson Kneifl tallied 10 points.
Other scoring came from senior Kaden Keller with eight points, sophomore Chase Nelson tacked on three points as two-point scoring came from juniors Brodey Munter and Drew Reinhardt.
Wayne High shot 5-8 at the foul line.
