Wayne's Parker secures top finishes in the pool

A Wayne High student is in his second year of a swimming co-op with Norfolk High and recently competed in a trio of outings.

Kyler Parker began his swim season by winning the 100 backstroke (1:01.73) and finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:13.97) helping the Panthers win at South Sioux City (141-16) on Dec. 4.

He also swam a split on the winning 200 free relay team (1:38.57) in 24 seconds flat and swam the fly split in 25.61 on the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.97).

Moving into Dec. 6, Norfolk won the Hastings Invite with 349 points.

Parker placed fifth in both the 50 freestyle (23.83) and 100 fly (1:00.42).

He also swam a split on the winning 200 free relay (1:34.72) in 23.69 and the 400 freestyle relay (3:26.53) in 24.27/27.14.

Recently, Norfolk High boys swimming won 107-73 during a home dual against Fremont on Dec. 9.

Parker won the 50 freestyle (23.99) and placed runner-up in the 100 freestyle (52.37).

He also swam splits during the runner-up 200 medley relay (1:45.6) in 25.52 seconds (fly)and second place 200 freestyle relay (1:31.73) in 22.61 seconds.

Just one week in and the 200 Free and 200 Medley relay teams have qualified for the state meet (Feb. 26 - 28). The individual times for Kyler Parker are also secondary qualifying state times.

Norfolk swimming will next host Grand Island on Dec. 16. at 4 p.m. (Norfolk YMCA).
