Wayne/Wakefield was limited to four hits by Platteview pitching, and the visiting Trojans came away with an 8-1 win Thursday at Hank Overin Field.
Platteview led 1-0 in the second when a pop fly in the infield rolled, untouched, into foul territory, but was ruled a fair ball by the umpire, who told the Wayne/Wakefield coaches he saw the ball touch an infielder. The result led to a run and opened the door for a four-run inning that gave the visitors a 5-0 advantage on their way to the win.
Wayne/Wakefield got its only run in the bottom of the seventh on Tyler Lutt’s RBI single to center, scoring Tyler Gilliland, who walked to lead off the inning.
Caden Korth had a double and Lutt, Julio Sanchez and Isaac Camerna each had singles. Adam Bentjen took the loss on the mound.
Wayne/Wakefield is 0-11 on the season. They host Norfolk in a 7 p.m. game Thursday, April 21 at Hank Overin Field.
