The Wayne/Wakefield baseball team’s search for a first win came up short on Friday evening, as Norfolk High beat the locals for the second time this season in a 9-3 win at Hank Overin Field.
Norfolk jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Wayne scored runs in the second and third to get within 3-2. Norfolk added two more in the fourth and put the game out of reach with three in the sixth to come away with the win.
Brennan O’Reilly and Julio Sanchez each had two hits to lead a six-hit attack. Sanchez had an RBI single on the evening. Adam Bentjen took the loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing six runs, three of them earned, on four hits with five walks and two strikeouts.
