Wayne/Wakefield played some bonus baseball on Monday, taking Guardian Angels CC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer to 10 innings before the visitors plated a run to post a 3-2 win Monday at Hank Overin Field.
The visitors got a run in the first inning, but Wayne countered in the bottom of the fourth when Mason Lee scored on Noah Braun’s fielder’s choice.
Both teams scored in the sixth inning. Wayne/Wakefield got the game-tying run when Lee came home on Justin Dean’s RBI single, tying the game at 2-2.
Both teams had opportunities to close the game in regulation, but it took three extra innings before the Patriots got the game-winning run on a hit in the top of the 10th inning and silenced the home team in the bottom of the inning to finish off the win.
Zane Jackson and Isaac Cameran each had two hits for 0-6 Wayne/Wakefield and Isaac Camarena had a double to highlight the seven-hit attack. Mason Lee scored both runs as a courtesy runner for Jackson. Julio Sanchez pitched well in a starting role, striking out eight in six innings of work. He allowed only two hits and walked five. Adam Bentjen pitched four innings of relief in a losing effort, striking out two and allowing one hit and one walk.
Wayne/Wakefield plays South Sioux City on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Hank Overin Field.
