Finding the replacement for the position of Wayne County Weed Superintendent, along with how the county will take care of mowing the area around the Wayne County Courthouse were among the items discussed during Tuesday's meeting of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners.
Current Wayne County Weed Superintendent Doug Deck has indicated he will be retiring on or before Dec. 31 of this year. He would like the county to have a replacement in position sometime this summer to assist in training.
Commissioners also discussed options for mowing and fertilizing the lawn around the courthouse.
Pat Brentlinger, Maintenance Director, told the commissioners that he estimates it would take one full day per week to mow, bag and pick up sticks during the mowing season.

Following discussion it was agreed to go out for bids for both the mowing portion of the project and the weed control/fertilizer portion. The later will include the stipulation that no granular fertilizer be used.
Also on Tuesday's agenda was information on a program called Connecting the Dots.
Julie Schultz with the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Extension. Schultz told the commissioners that the event will be held at Wayne State College on Tuesday, March 17 and involve freshmen from Wayne and Winside schools.
District 2 Commissioner Eischeid spoke during Tuesday's meeting on the need for a tractor in District 2.
The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, March 17 at 9 a.m. in the Wayne County Courtroom.
