Wendte with perfect game for Wayne Blue Broncos, White Broncos score 25; Didget teams fall

With two tournaments for each age division set to open this week, the Wayne Didget and Bronco youth baseball teams closed out their regular season Tri County League schedule on Monday.

From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne Blue Didgets and Broncos hosted Battle Creek #1 while Wayne White traveled to Pierce White.

In Wayne, the Wayne Blue Broncos (11-0) capped off their undefeated regular season with a 15-0 victory over Battle Creek #1 as Mason Wendte recorded a perfect game on the mound.

Following a scoreless first inning, Wayne Blue posted a nine-run second and then added six runs in the fourth to win 15-0 and outhit Battle Creek #1, 10-0.

Braden McManigal singled three times, drove in two runs and scored twice; Sy Chase singled twice, drove in two runs and scored; Gage Kimmel doubled, drove in a run and scored twice while Ryan Loberg doubled and scored twice.

Kian Pick and Mason Rhodes both singled, drove in two runs and scored; Mason Wendte singled, drove in a run and scored; Isaiah Zarate accounted for a RBI and run scored; Forrest Gearhart scored twice as Brayden Stegemann and Blake Heithold both scored.

Wendte (44 pitches) picked up the perfect game victory in four innings not allowing a hit or a run while striking out 10 batters. He faced 12 total batters and also produced two ground outs.

During the Didgets game, Wayne Blue (5-6) dropped a 10-8 decision against Battle Creek #1.

Battle Creek #1 opened with four runs in the first inning. Wayne Blue then answered in the home half of the first with Finn McElroy recording a walk and Mason Jech a single as both were driven in by Brody Virgil with a single to score two runs. Battle Creek extended their lead with a run in the second and three more runs in the third to lead 8-2. Wayne Blue then followed with three of their own runs in the bottom of the third. Battle Creek again extended their lead with two runs to lead 10-5 before Wayne Blue produced three runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined but suffered the 10-8 loss.

Jech finished with a triple, single, RBI and run scored; McElroy singled, drove in a run and scored as Ryan Magnuson also singled. Virgil singled and drove in a run.

The Wayne Blue Broncos will take part in the Upper Division while Blue Didgets will compete in the Lower Division. The Wayne Blue Broncos tied for first with Tri-County (Emerson) both undefeated as Wayne Blue will be the #2 seed due to strength of schedule (opponents going 33-81) while the Wayne Blue Didgets finished in a four-way tie for 15th but lost the tie breakers on strength of schedule (opponents going 57-64) to finish 18th.

From Pierce, the Wayne White Broncos (4-7) won a high scoring affair of 25-13 at Pierce White.

Both teams opened the first inning with three runs before Wayne White posted a five-run second inning to lead 8-3. Wayne White then added a run in the third before Pierce White used a 10-3 advantage in the fourth to lead 13-12. The Wayne White Broncos then went off in the fifth scoring 13 runs to win 25-13 and outhit Pierce White, 17-10.

Izaiah Zarate singled three times, doubled twice, drove in six runs and scored four times; Merrick Miller singled three times, doubled, drove in four runs and scored four times; Hudson Kramer singled twice, drove in two runs and scored four times; Max Judd singled twice, drove in two runs and scored three times as Benjamin Patefield singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice.

Mason Nelson singled, drove in two runs and scored twice; Drue Jensen singled; Harley Poland accounted for three RBI and two runs scored; Trey Wardlow added a RBI and two runs scored as Caysen Gamble scored twice.

Kramer (27 pitches) picked up the win in an inning and two-thirds of relief allowing one hit while striking out three batters, walking one and hitting one. Patefield (79) started the opening three and a third innings allowing 13 earned runs off nine hits while striking out five batters, walking six and hitting three.

In the Didgets outing, Wayne White (4-7) suffered a 4-1 loss at Pierce White.

Pierce White scored twice in the first and third innings to lead 4-0. The Wayne White Didgets added a run in the fourth but suffered a 4-1 loss as Pierce White won the hit department, 5-2.

Ayser Titiml doubled and scored while Heath Poland tripled.

Graham Sharpe (68 pitches) suffered the loss in three innings allowing four runs (two earned) off four hits while striking out eight batters and walking two. Adrian Zarate (21) worked an inning allowing one hit while striking out two batters, walking one and hitting one.

The Wayne White Broncos and Didgets will both compete in the Lower Division. The Wayne White Broncos finished 18th in the Tri County League regular season while the Wayne White Didgets had a four-way tie for 19th but lost the tie breakers on strength of schedule (opponents going 57-64) to finish 22nd.

In the Didget Division, first round games for the Gold bracket (Upper) top 16 teams with consolation along with Blue bracket (Lower) bottom 14 teams with no consolation will start on Wednesday, June 26.

For the Broncos Division, first round games for the Gold bracket (Upper) top 14 teams with consolation along with the Blue bracket (Lower) bottom 11 teams with no consolation will start on Thursday, June 27.
