Wildcat beach VB loses first two

The Wayne State beach volleyball team lost each of its first two matches in action Friday at the Hawks Championship Center in Lincoln.

On Friday morning, Nebraska handed Wayne State College a 5-0 defeated in the opener for both teams.

The No. 1 pairs match saw Wayne State’s Taya Beller and Allie Petry fall to Nebraska’s Bekka Allick and Lexi Rodriguez 21-11 and 21-9.  The No. 2’s contest saw UNL’s Harper Murray and Merritt Beason register a 21-10, 21-6 win over the Wildcat pairing of Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick.

In the 3’s match it was Nebraska’s Ally Batenhorst and Bergen Reilly surviving a close first set with Isabelle Vacek and Rachel Walker to win 21-19, 21-12.  The 4’s pairing saw Lindsay Krause and Laney Choboy of Nebraska down Ally Beresford and Brooke Peltz of Wayne State 21-16, 21-11.

The No. 5 contest had Caroline Jurevicius and Hayden Kubik of Nebraska edge Maggie Brahmer and Havyn Heinz of Wayne State 21-19, 21-16 and the exhibition match had Wayne State’s Grace Baumert and Taylor Bunjer go extra points in the second set before falling to Nebraska’s Maisi Boesiger and Andi Jackson 21-14, 22-20.

In their second match of the day, the Wildcats fell to Park University 4-1.

Wayne State’s win came in the No. 2 pairing as Kelsie Cada and Jordan McCormick picked up a 21-13, 21-9 win.

Two other matches went three sets as the No. 3 duo of Isabelle Vacek and Rachel Walker fell 21-19, 17-21, 15-11 and the No. 4 pairing of Ally Beresford and Brooke Peltz fell 23-25, 21-9, 15-9.

Wayne State resumes play on Tuesday, March 7 when the Wildcats face Park (Ariz.) in Gilbert, Arizona to start their Arizona Spring Break Trip.
