Wildcat Cross Country posts second place team finishes during home classic

For a second straight week, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country team was in action, this time on their home course.

From the Wayne Country Club, the Wildcat Classic showcased four women’s and five men’s teams on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Wayne State College women finished second with 73 points while the Wildcat men scored 60 points to also place runner-up.

In the women’s division, Dordt took the top eight spots to run away with the team race scoring 15 points, followed by WSC in second with 73 points, Augustana B (Viking Distance Project) placed third(77) and Southwest Minnesota State rounded out the team scoring in fourth with 83 points.

Wayne State College was led by Kaitlyn Bloomenrader with a ninth place finish in a time of 24:44.69. Allie Czapla took 19th (25:48.77) as Callie Kirchner placed 29th (26:28.09).

Other results came from Madeline Kunz (31st – 26:50.31), Jozlyn Barnes (32nd – 26:54.68), Maelee Beacom (34th – 27:00.53), Nikola Prochazkova (36th – 27:13.24), Sydney Escritt (41st – 27:24.45), Taylor Thorp (49th – 27:55.72) and Madi McKie (55th – 28:34.28).

Dordt’s Corinne Braun won the women’s 6,000-meter run in a time of 23:05.68 among the 64 runners.

During the men’s division, Dordt won 27-60 over WSC. Mount Marty followed in third with 79 points, Southwest Minnesota State placed fourth (105) as Augustana B (Viking Distance Project) rounded out the top five teams with 108 points.

Quentin Dreyer paced WSC with a fifth place finish in a time of 27:39.92 followed by Ethan Walters taking ninth in a time of 27:53.39. Brody Lucas placed 16th (28:25.88) as Brady Franzen finished 19th (28:39.75).

Other results came from Brandon Mitzel (26th – 29:34.10), Akron Jostand (28th – 29:46.61), Gannon Walsh (35th – 30:06.98), William Keller (41st – 30:37.63), Andrew Wyllie (47th – 31:10.11) and Simeon Weers (57th – 33:42.74).

Mount Marty’s Joseph Cross won the 8,000-meter race in a time of 26:33.69 among the 65 runners.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s cross country program will be off until the Dordt Invite on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
