One final opportunity to improve on times and marks allowed the Wayne State College women’s and men’s indoor track & field team to compete at a high level.
Back at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota for a second straight week, WSC participated in a smaller meet during the SDSU Last Chance Invite held last Friday.
The Wayne State College women were led by Lindsey Kneifl who picked up a first-place finish in the triple jump. Her winning mark in the triple jump was 36’ 9” and she also finished eighth in the long jump with a top mark of 17’ 1 ¼”.
Callie Kirchner collected a second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:08.08 with teammate Jozlyn Barnes taking seventh at 3:10.90.
Kailee Kellum was third in the long jump at 17’ 8 ¾” and took eighth in the triple jump with a top mark of 34’ 7 ½”.
Olivia Schwarzrock placed fourth in the shot put with a top heave of 42’ 4 ¾” and was fifth in the weight throw at 53’ 7”.
Other top finishers for the Wildcat women included Zoey Holmes taking fourth in the 600-meter run (1:38.19), Reagan Murphy was fifth in the 200-meter dash in 26.32 seconds and Kaitlyn Bloomenrader was seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:20.68 seconds.
The Wayne State College men were led by Daylin Mallory who broke his own school record in the shot put while Quentin Dreyer and Emmanuel Badejo earned event wins.
Mallory bettered his own school record set three weeks ago at the Wildcat Indoor Classic by just over two feet, placing second in the shot put with a mark of 55’ 2 ¼”. The old mark was 53’ 1 ¾”. His new mark is also an NCAA provisional mark that currently ranks third in the NSIC.
The Wildcats also recorded two event wins as Quentin Dreyer crossed the line first in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:32.40 while Emmanuel Badejo posted another win in the 400-meter dash taking first with a time of 47.74 seconds.
WSC had four top finishers in the weight throw at Jaxson Ninete was fourth (56’ 1 ¼”), Samuel Zazueta fifth at 54’ 5 ½”, J’Dyn Bullion sixth with a mark of 54’ 3 ¼” and Braden McGill seventh at 53’ 5 ¾”.
Other fourth place finishers for the Wildcats were Wyatt Nissen in the 200-meter dash in 22.11 seconds and Elliott Nottlemann was fourth in the high jump clearing 6’ 5”.
Daniel Elge was fifth in the shot put (51’ 7”), Mitchell Hupp was sixth in the 60-meter dash at 6.92 seconds, Mitchell Rudie was sixth in the 600-meter run (1:27.77) and Alex Leuenberger was seventh in the 400-meter dash in 50.30 seconds.
The Wayne State College women’s and men’s indoor track & field team will next compete at the NSIC Indoor Championships on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 in Mankato, Minnesota.
