It was a busy week of home events at Wayne State College which included the first of two collegiate cross country outings taking over the Wayne Country Club.
The Wildcat Classic was shortened due to heat on Sept. 26 but that didn't slow down the Wayne State College men who won their home competition with 31 points as the WSC women took second with 49 points.
In the women's division, Sioux Falls scored 18 points while SMSU rounded out the three full teams with 65 points.
Wayne State College was led by Allie Czapla earning a seventh place medal in 15:01.66.
Sydney Escritt took eighth (15:07), Callie Kirchner followed in ninth (15:11.4) as Kyla Krusemark placed 10th (15:15.53).
Mallory Salazar from Siuox Falls won the 3,600-meter race in a time of 14:07.79 among the 32 runners.
Following WSC in the men's division, Sioux Falls placed runner-up (42), Southwest Minnesota State took third (66) and Mount Marty University (SD) rounded out the four full teams with 97 points.
Wayne State College top medalists were Brody Lucas earning silver in 13:48.85, Lucas Frazier placed fourth (13:57.39) and Brady Franzen took fifth (14:00.67).
Other top Wildcat finishers were Matt Richardson (ninth - 14:15.29) and William Keller (11th - 14:18.24).
Joseph Cross from Mount Marty University (SD) won the men's 4,200-meter race in 13:41.34 among the 38 runners.
The Wayne State College women's and men's cross country program is off until Saturday, October 11 at 10/10:45 a.m. during the Dordt Invite in Sioux Center, Iowa.
WSC will be hosting the NSIC Cross Country Championships on Friday, October 24 at noon for the women's race followed by the men's race at 1:15 p.m.
