Wildcat men's basketball wins home opener on Nov. 17

After getting back to Wayne Saturday evening, the Wayne State College men's basketball team continued their early season non-conference slate.

From Rice Auditorium, the Wildcats secured a 95-58 victory over Manhattan Christian College (KS) on Nov. 17.

After building a 53-26 first half lead, the host Wildcats outscored the Thunder 42-32 in the final 20 minutes.

Senior Kai Smith (5-7 FG/1-3 3PT/3-3 FT) led WSC in scoring with 14 points, two rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals; 13-point scoring came from sophomore Matt Noll (5-13 FG/1-2 3PT/2-4 FT) with five rebounds, two assists, four blocks and two steals along with redshirt junior transfer (CSU Pueblo) Aurrion Harris (4-4 FG/1-1 3PT/4-6 FT) with three rebounds, one assist, two blocks and three steals as well as double-figure scoring coming from freshman Ben Kerkhoff (4-7 FG/2-4 3PT/2-2 FT) with 12 points, one rebound and two assists.

All 13 players who saw action scored at least two points.

Other scoring came from senior transfer (Crookston) Andrew Stokes (five boards, two assists, one steal) and redshirt freshman Darshan Thomas (six boards, one steaal) both had eight points; freshman Payson Nietert (one board, one steal) added six points; junior JJ Ferrin (three boards, seven assists, one steal) and junior Wade Voss (five boards, two assists, one block) both had five points; redshirt junior transfer (Winona State) Ahmad Artis (one steal) tallied four points; redshirt freshman Eldon Turner (two assists, one steal) tacked on three points as two-point scoring came from junior transfer (Illinois Valley CC) Roko Jurasovic (one block) and redshirt junior Evan Inselman (one board, one steal).

The Wayne State College men (2-1) will next travel to Wichita, KS on Thursday, Nov. 20 visiting Newman University at 6 p.m.
