Wayne State used a season-high nine service aces and a .337 attack percentage to sweep Bemidji State Friday at Rice Auditorium, winning 25-11, 25-16, 25-13.
Bemidji State opened the match with a service ace, but WSC responded with seven of the next eight points to take a 7-2 lead and never trailed the rest of the night.
Wayne State built a 17-7 lead in the second set and used five service aces, including two by Tarrin Beller, to take the second set. Jaci Brahmer and Katie Stephens each had three kills and Wayne State forced seven Beaver attack errors in the set.
The third set saw the Wildcats score six straight points to break open a tight set on their way to completing the three-game sweep. Stephens had four kills to lead Wayne State while Maddie Duffy accounted for two service aces in the set.
Wayne State finished the match with a .337 attack percentage on 40 kills, eight errors and 95 attacks while Bemidji State posted a .099 percentage with 25 kills, 16 errors and 91 attacks. The Wildcats had one more dig than Bemidji State, 44-43, and held a 6-4 edge in blocks. Wayne State had nine service aces and four errors while BSU had two aces and three service errors.
Stephens led the Wildcats with 11 kills and a .400 attack percentage followed by Brahmer with eight kills. Beller produced four blocks and libero Haley Kauth had nine digs. Duffy had three of Wayne State’s nine service aces while Beller and Alyssa Ballenger each accounted for two aces. Megan Gebhardt handed out 33 set assists.
The Wildcats (14-5, 6-4 NSIC) will be at home again Saturday, hosting Minnesota Crookston at 1 p.m.
