Two first-half goals held up for Wayne State as the Wildcats earned a 2-1 Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer victory Friday afternoon at Minnesota Crookston.

Crookston scored the opening goal of the contest in the 28th minute when Tessa Overbeke put one past WSC goalkeeper Hayden Wallace to give the Golden Eagles the early lead.

It took Wayne State fine minutes to respond as senior Morgan Rhodes scored just inside the circle with an assist from Annika Syvrud to tie the score at 1-1 at the 33:14 mark.

Right before halftime, the Wildcats would score again as junior midfielder Kaelyn Reeves took a cross from Syvrud and scored in front of the goal for a 2-1 lead that would stand up as the final score.

Wayne State held a 28-4 advantage in shots in the contest and 12-3 in shots on goal. The ‘Cats had nine corner kicks to none for the Golden Eagles while UMC had one more foul than WSC (6-5).

Rhodes had a team-high five shots and one goal for the Wildcats. Reeves had two shots on goal including the game-winner. Chloe Schlines and Paige Pemberton each produced four shots while Skylar Stueckrath posted two shots on goal. Syvrud recorded both assists in the contest and also had one shot on goal. Wallace was credited with two saves in the contest while picking up her sixth win of the season.

The Wildcats (6-6-2, 4-4-2 NSIC) continue their NSIC road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at Bemidji State.
