A third consecutive day of competition took over the Wayne State College softball team ahead of a one-day break.
Back at Legends Way Field in Clermont, Florida, WSC took on Concord (N.C.) and Eckerd (FL) on Sunday.
The Wildcats picked up a 6-5 win in eight innings over Concord followed by a 4-3 loss against Eckerd. WSC saw their five-game winning streak snapped falling to 12-8.
In the win over Concord, neither team scored in the first inning followed by Concord putting two runs on the board in the home half of the second inning.
Wayne State College answered with a run in the top of the second when sophomore Jordyn Klein drove in senior Lauren Laudick.
Concord extended their lead with two more runs in the fourth to go up 4-1.
After Klein drove in redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak and freshman Leah Chance doubled in Klein and Laudick for a trio of Wayne State College runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4, Concord regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth at 5-4.
Following a scoreless sixth, Wayne State College plated a run in the top of the seventh to force extras thanks to Chance on a sac-fly scoring sophomore Jordyn Rochholz and then scored once more in the top of the eighth with sophomore Taylor Coleman doubling in fellow sophomore Emilee Marth.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 6-5 and outhitting Concord, 9-8 while committing four errors compared to two errors by their opponent.
Jordyn Klein singled three times, drove in two runs and scored; Lauren Laudick singled, doubled and scored twice; Leah Chance doubled and drove in three runs; Taylor Coleman doubled and drove in a run as senior Hayley Murphy doubled.
Mary Krystofiak singled and scored as Emilee Marth and Jordyn Rochholz both scored.
Redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe (17) picked up the win in the final inning and a third striking out two batters. Senior Grace Lucka (57) started the opening two innings allowing two earned runs off three hits while striking out three batters and walking two. Senior Samantha Felt (55) worked four and two-thirds allowing three runs off five hits while striking out two batters and walking one.
During the loss against Eckerd, both teams were scoreless the opening two innings.
Eckerd first scored in the top of the third followed by a Wayne State College single run the home half of the third with Marth driving in freshman Maddie Scobee.
Following a scoreless fourth, Eckerd did damage with a three-run fifth to go up 4-1.
WSC answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Marth drove in Klein as Borngrebe drove in Chance.
Final favored Eckerd winning 4-3 despite Wayne State College winning the hit department, 9-7 but committed two errors compared to Eckerd with one error.
Klein singled, tripled and scored; Marth singled twice and drove in two runs as Rochholz doubled.
Chance singled and scored; Borngrebe singled and drove in a run; Scobee singled and scored as Laudick singled.
Borngrebe (112) suffered the complete game loss in seven innings allowing four runs (three earned) off seven hits while striking out four batters, walking three and hitting one.
