Another NSIC opponent visited Wayne America over the weekend as the Wayne State College softball team played their fifth and sixth straight home games.
From the Pete Chapman Softball Complex, the Wildcats entertained Minnesota Crookston for senior day on Sunday.
Wayne State College suffered close losses of 4-2 and 1-0 falling to 25-18 (10-8 NSIC) while the Golden Eagles moved to 16-28 (4-13 NSIC).
In the opening game, WSC began by scoring a single run in the home half of the second inning. Senior Lauren Laudick posted a RBI double driving in sophomore Taylor Coleman.
Following a scoreless third, Minnesota Crookston posted a four-run top of the fourth.
The Wildcats were held to one more run the next half of an inning. Redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak added a RBI groundout driving in redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe.
Final favored Minnesota Crookston winning 4-2 despite Wayne State College winning the hit department, 7-6. Both teams committed two errors.
Lauren Laudick doubled and drove in a run; Mary Krystofiak singled and drove in a run as Taylor Coleman and Kennadi Borngrebe both singled and scored.
Sophomore Jordyn Klein, freshman Leah Chance and sophomore Emilee Marth all singled.
Coleman (80 pitches) suffered the loss in three and a third innings allowing four earned runs off five hits while striking out three batters, walking four and hitting one. Senior Samantha Felt (43) worked three and two-thirds allowing one hit while striking out two batters.
During the second outing, the opening six innings were scoreless.
Minnesota Crookston plated the lone run of the game in the top of the seventh.
Final favored UMC winning 1-0 despite Wayne State College winning the hit department 3-1. WSC committed one error compared to zero by the Golden Eagles.
Taylor Coleman singled and doubled as freshman Maddie Scobee singled.
Senior Grace Lucka (104) suffered the complete game loss in seven innings allowing one run off one hit while striking out seven batters and walking two.
The Wayne State College softball team will close out their fourth straight home doubleheader on Friday, April 18 when WSC hosts Minnesota State-Mankato.
