Wildcat softball loses two at Sioux Falls

The Wayne State softball team dropped a Northern Sun Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at the University of Sioux Falls, losing 13-3 and 14-4.

In the opener, Sioux Falls scored nine runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach after putting up four runs in the first.

Wayne did its damage in the third when Annie Grammer doubled and scored on an Emily Chandler groundout in the third, then added two on a two-run homer by Michaela Smith.

Kim Vidlak went 2-for-3 with a double to lead a seven-hit effort. Makenna Adkison took the loss in the circle.

In the nightcap, Wayne State trailed 9-0 before Chandler hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for her third home run in the last four games.

Wayne State added two more in the fifth on a two-run single by Abby Hix before Sioux Falls put the game out of reach and ended it in six innings.

Hix, Kortney Buresh and Taylor Menard each went 2-for-3 in the losing effort. Riley Vanderveen took the loss in the circle.

Wayne State (9-16, 0-8 NSIC) will be on the road this weekend for NSIC doubleheaders at Concordia-St. Paul Saturday and Minnesota State Sunday.
