Indoor competition showcased Wayne State College softball during their season-opener.
From the Dordt Dome in Sioux Center, Iowa, WSC competed against Dordt University on Wednesday.
Wayne State College won 9-0 and 8-0 against the host Defenders. WSC starts their season at 2-0.
Following a scoreless first inning during the opening game, WSC plated a run in the second inning to start with a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Emilee Marth scored on an error.
The Wildcats then added six runs in the third to go up 7-0. Sophomore Lillie Timm drove in redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe, followed by sophomore Jordyn Rochholz and Marth both scoring on a bases loaded walks, Timm then scored on a fielders choice before freshman Maddie Scobee drove in sophomore Masyn Bunnell and redshirt senior Mary Krystofia.
In the top of the fourth, Wayne State College added two more runs. Marth drove in Rochholz as Marth later scored off a RBI base knock from Timm.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 9-0 in five innings outhitting Dordt, 12-1 and committing zero errors compared to two by the Defenders.
Marth singled twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored three times; Timm singled three times drove in two runs and scored as Rochholz doubled and scored twice.
Scobee singled and drove in two runs; Bunnell singled, drove in a run and scored; sophomore Jordyn Klein singled and drove in a run; Borngrebe singled and scored; sophomore Taylor Coleman singled as Krystofia accounted for a RBI and run scored.
Coleman (57 pitches) picked up the win in four and a third scoreless innings allowing one hit while striking out eight batters, walking one and hitting one. Senior Grace Lucka (12) worked two-thirds of scoreless action not allowing a hit while striking out one batter.
Moving into the second game, scoring began in the second inning where Marth doubled scoring freshman Leah Chance, Krystofia and Rochholz followed by a Klein RBI single scoring Marth to put the ‘Cats up 4-0.
It was another big third inning where first it was Borngrebe with a solo shot followed by Marth who recorded a three-run homerun where Chance and sophomoe Payton Kincaid both scored.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 8-0 in five innings outhitting the host Defenders, 9-2 and committed zero errors compared to one by Dordt.
Marth finished with a homerun, double, six total RBI and two runs scored; Borngrebe added a homerun as Klein tallied three singles and a RBI.
Chance singled and scored twice; Krystofia singled and scored; Coleman singled as Rochholz and Kincaid both scored.
Borngrebe (55 pitches) picked up the win in four scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out seven batters and walking one. Senior Samantha Felt (15) worked an inning of scoreless action not allowing a hit while walking one batter.
