For the second straight morning the Wayne State College softball team competed against two opponents during the National Training Center Spring Games.
From Legends Way Field in Clermont, Florida on Sunday, WSC battled Salem University (WV) and Wayne State University (MI).
Wayne State College first picked up a 9-0 win in five innings over Salem followed by a 4-3 victory against Wayne State University. WSC improved to 11-7 winning their fourth in a row.
In the win against Salem University, Wayne State College used single runs in the second and third innings to go up 2-0. Freshman Maddie Scobee drove in senior Hayley Murphy followed by sophomore Emilee Marth scoring on a passed ball.
The Wildcats took control in the top of the fourth with six runs. Sophomore Jordyn Klein first doubled in senior Lauren Laudick, Klein followed by scoring on a throwing error, Murphy doubled in both redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe and Marth as Scobee drove in both Murphy and sophomore Taylor Coleman to put WSC up 8-0.
WSC closed out scoring with one ore run in the fifth thanks to a Marth RBI base knock scoring freshman Leach Chance.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 9-0 and outhitting Salem while committing zero errors compared to two errors by their opponent.
Emilee Marth singled twice, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; Hayley Murphy singled, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice as Jordyn Klein doubled, drove in a run and scored. Other multi-hits came from Taylor Coleman with two singles and a run scored as Maddi Scobee singled twice and drove in three runs.
Leah Chance singled and scored; Kennadi Borngrebe accounted for a RBI and run scored as Lauren Laudick scored.
Senior Grace Lucka (64 pitches) picked up the complete game shutout victory allowing one hit while striking out seven batters and walking two.
During the victory over Wayne State University, WSU struck early with a single run in the top of the first inning.
Following a pair of scoreless innings, Wayne State University added another run in the top of the fourth to lead 2-0.
Wayne State College took the lead thanks to a three-run bottom of the fifth. Chance started off with a RBI single scoring Laudick followed by Borngrebe doubling in both Chance and Klein.
WSC scored once more in the bottom of the sixth to go up 4-2 thanks to sophomore Jordyn Rochholz scoring on an error.
Wayne State University would score once more in the top of the seventh.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 4-3 and winning the hit department, 7-4 but committed four errors compared to one error by WSU.
Borngrebe doubled twice and drove in two runs; Klein singled, doubled and scored as Chance singled twice, drove in a run and scored. Scobee singled as Rochholz and Laudick both scored.
Senior Samantha Felt (56 pitches) picked up the win in five innings allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out three batters. Coleman (48) started the opening two innings allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out five batters and walking two.
