Wildcat softball splits final NTC spring games, finish 8-2

A series of 10 games in six days closed for the Wayne State College softball team during the National Training Center Spring Games.

One last time from Clermont, Florida, WSC competed against Queen’s College (NY) and Ohio Dominican on Wednesday.

The Wildcats saw a two-game winning streak snapped following a 4-3 loss to Queen’s and secured a 4-1 victory over Ohio Dominican. Wayne State College went 8-2 in Florida and now sit 15-9 overall.

During the loss against Queen’s College, scoring began early for Queen’s with two runs in the top of the first.

WSC answered with a single run from a sac-fly by redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe scoring sophomore Jordyn Klein the next half inning.

Queen’s College followed with one run in the top of the second.

Wayne State College tied the game up at 3-3 with two runs in the bottom of the third. Freshman Maddie Scobee drove in Borngrebe and freshman Leah Chance.

After a scoreless fourth, Queen’s College added one more run in the fifth.

Final favored Queen’s College winning 4-3 and outhitting WSC, 8-7. Neither team committed an error.

Jordyn Klein singled three times and scored as Kennadi Borngrebe singled, tripled, drove in a run and scored.

Maddie Scobee singled and drove in two runs as Leach Chance singled and scored.

Senior Grace Lucka (46 pitches) suffered the loss in two innings allowing three earned runs off four hits while striking out three batters and walking one. Senior Samantha Felt (48) worked five innings allowing an earned run off four hits while striking out two batters.

In the victory over Ohio Dominican, neither team scored in the opening inning until Ohio Dominican took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.

Wayne State College answered with a three-run top of the third. Sophomore Emilee Marth recorded a RBI walk scoring sophomore Masyn Bunnell; Borngrebe drove in Klein as senior Hayley Murphey added a sac-fly scoring Chance.

Following a scoreless fourth, WSC scored once more in the top of the fifth. Marth drove in Chance.

Final favored Wayne State College winning 4-1 and outhitting Ohio Dominican, 8-4. Both teams committed one error.

Jordyn Klein singled twice and scored; Leach Chance singled twice and scored twice as Maddie Scobee tripled.

Emilee Marth singled and drove in two runs; Kennadi Borngrebe singled and drove in a run; redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak singled; Hayley Murphey accounted for a RBI as Masyn Bunnell scored.

Kennadi Borngrebe (113) picked up the win in six and a third innings allowing an earned run off four hits while striking out five batters and walking three. Samantha Felt earned her fourth save of the season following two-thirds of relief garnering two groundouts.

The Wayne State College softball team will be off until Saturday and Sunday, March 22 – 23 during their NSIC opener.
