National Training Center spring break trips games opened on Friday for the Wayne State College softball team.
From Legends Way Field in Clermont, Florida, WSC competed against Clarion (PA) and West Virginia Wesleyan in the morning.
The Wildcats began with a 5-0 victory over Clarion to snap a four-game losing streak followed by a second straight win thanks to a 6-4 win against West Virginia Wesleyan. Wayne State College improved to 9-7.
In the victory over Clarion, Wayne State College first brought in a pair of runs in the second inning. Freshman Maddie Scobee recorded a two-run homerun for WSC.
The Wildcats also added three runs in the bottom of the third. Redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe doubled and drove in both sophomore Taylor Coleman and sophomore Emilee Marth as redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak drove in Borngrebe.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 5-0 and outhit Clarion, 7-4 while committing zero errors compared to two by Clarion.
Scobee posted a two-run homerun; Borngrebe doubled, drove in two runs and scored; Marth doubled and scored as senior Hayley Murphy doubled.
Krystofiak singled and drove in a run; Coleman singled and scored; freshman Leah Chance singled as sophomore Lillie Timm also scored.
Borngrebe (pitch count NA) picked up the win in six scoreless innings allowing four hits while striking out 10 batters and walking four. Senior Grace Lucka worked an inning striking out two batters.
During the win against West Virginia Wesleyan, Wayne State College began with a run in the top of the second inning. Sophomore Jordyn Klein recorded a sac fly RBI scoring Scobee.
WSC added two more runs in the top of the third to lead 3-0. Scobee drove in sophomore Jordyn Rochholz and Marth.
Following a scoreless fourth, West Virginia Wesleyan took a 4-3 lead with a four-run home half of the fifth.
Neither team scored in the sixth as Wayne State College would regain the lead and drive in three runs during the seventh. A double from Marth tied the game with Chance scoring, Coleman tripled scoring Marth as Borngrebe drove in Lucka.
Final favored Wayne State College winning 6-4 as WSC also won the hit department, 6-5 and didn’t commit an error compared to two errors by West Virginia Wesleyan.
Marth doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; Coleman tripled, drove in a run and scored as Scobee singled, drove in two runs and scored.
Klein and Borngrebe both singled and drove in a run; Rochholz singled and scored as Chance scored.
Lucka (pitch count NA) picked up the win in two inning allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out two batters and walking one. Senior Samantha Felt earned the save in two-thirds of an inning striking out one batter. Coleman started the opening four and a third allowing three earned runs off two hits while striking out five batters, walking one and hitting one.
