With teams splitting over a two-day period, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track & field team first competed on Friday.
From the Sioux City Relays in Iowa, three total event wins were posted by the WSC women and men.
In the women’s division, senior thrower Reilly Young won the hammer throw at 170’ 2” and followed in runner-up during the discus at 153’ 3”.
Wildcat throwers had five of the top eight finishers in the hammer throw while four in the top six of the discus.
Senior Hailey Baker was second in the hammer throw at 169’ 6” with junior Olivia Schwarzrock right behind in third at 162’ 5”. Other placers included freshman McKinley Grover sixth (149’ 2”) and freshman Taylor Arp eighth at 147’ 9”.
In the discus, Wayne sophomore Brooklyn Kruse came in fourth at 144’ 11’, Grover was fifth (142’ 1”) and sophomore Torrance Tso finished sixth at 141’ 5”.
In running events, freshman Zoey Holmes collected a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash at 1:00.17 while freshman Reagan Murphy was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 26.23 seconds.
During WSC men’s action, sophomore Jaxson Ninete recorded an NCAA provisional mark to win the hammer at 190’ 7”.
WSC had six of the top seven throws in the event as senior Daniel Elge was second at 188’ 11”, junior Jake Peitz third (173’ 6”), Alex Altman fourth with a throw of 173’ 0”, junior Matthew Logue sixth (168’ 0”) and freshman Samuel Zazueta seventh at 165’ 7”.
Freshman sprinter Emmanuel Badejo also collected an event win for the Wildcats crossing the tape first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.23 seconds.
Junior Daylin Mallory placed second in the shot put at 53’ 4 ½” with Peitz taking seventh (46’ 2 ¾”).
The other top finisher for the Wildcats was freshman Alex Razee taking third in the 400-meter dash in 49.73 seconds.
