Wayne State recorded four first-place finishes and four NCAA provisional qualifying marks Saturday at the Mark Schuck Indoor Track and Field Open, hosted by Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn.
In men’s acation, first-place finishers included senior Robert Sullivan in the heptathlon, scoring 5,153 points. The distance medley relay team of Bryce Holcomb, Kyle Lowe, Nathan Pearson and Brock Hegarty crossed the tape first in a time of 10:58.27 while freshman Mikhail Sands had a first place finish in the long jump at 21 feet, 10 3/4 inches.
Sullivan’s effort in the heptathlon was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the two-time NCAA indoor national qualifier in the event, ranking eighth in NCAA Div. II.
The other two NCAA provisional marks came from Cade Kalkowski and Dylan Kaup in the weight throw, with Kalkowski placing second at 64-7 14 while Kaup’s top mark was 60-3 1/4. Kalkowski now sits ninth in NCAA Div. II while Kaup is listed at 21st.
Second-place finishes were posted by Bryce Holcomb in the 600-meter dash (1:24.93) and Brock Hegarty in the 1,000-meter run at 2:39.11.
Nathan Pearson had a third in the 600-meter run (1:25.30) while the 1,600-meter relay quartet of Jacob Ladage, Preston Davis, Pearson and Holcomb came in fifth in a time of 3:29.04.
Sixth-place finishers included Noah Lilly in the heptathlon with 4,242 points and Aaron English in the high jump, clearing 6-2 1/4.
Ben Allen was sixth in the shot put at 50-4 3/4, with Jayle Hinkle next in seventh (50-2 1/2). Clay Kramper was eighth in the 200-meter dash (23.14) and Preston Davis placed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.82).
In women’s action, Jordyn Pester took first place in the 400-meter dash while sophomore Jadin Wagner captured second in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark to lead the Wayne State women.
Pester crossed the tape first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.25 seconds while Wagner recorded a toss of 47-11 1/4 to place second in the shot put, good for an NCAA provisional mark that currently is tied for 13th in NCAA Div. II.
Mikayla Marvin matched her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 10-8 3/4 to place third, while the 1,600-meter relay team of Pester, Joan Jelimo, Marin Jetensky and Molli Vasa posted a third-place finish with a time of 4:05.03.
Morgan Shearer posted a fifth-place finish in the pentathlon, scoring 2,635 points, Molli Vasa came in sixth in the 600-meter dash (1:42.78) and Kim Lowman was seventh in the 1,000-meter run at 3:18.49.
In the weight throw, Mckenzie Scheil was sixth at 54-10, with teammate Nicole Heeren right behind in seventh with a mark of 53-5 3/4, and Tia Jones collected an eighth-place finish in the shot put at 42-8.
Riana Noelle recorded a pair of 10th-place finishes in the long jump (16-5 1/4) and the triple jump (34-11).
Wayne State’s next meet will be Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2 at the Husker Invite in Lincoln.
