It's been a busy summer with several summer announcements and recognitions being made ahead of the 2026-27 upcoming Wayne State Athletics season.
Wildcat volleyball earns 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award
For the 24th straight year, the Wayne State College volleyball team has received the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Team Academic Award.
The 24-year consecutive streak by Wildcat volleyball is the longest active streak in NCAA Division II volleyball as WSC posted a 3.66 cumulative grade point average during the 2025-26 school year.
To be eligible for the award, a school must maintain a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. This year a total of 1,432 collegiate or high school teams earned the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award.
Wayne State finished the 2025 season with a record of 27-5 overall and tied for first in the NSIC with a 19-1 league mark giving the Wildcats their third NSIC regular season title in the last four years.
The Wildcats were tied for 10th in the final AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
WSC beach volleyball is AVCA Division II Beach Team Academic Champion
The American Volleyball Coaches Association released the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Awards and Wayne State beach volleyball was recognized as the 2026 Division II Beach Team Academic Champion, posting the highest grade point average in Division II beach volleyball this season with a 3.74 cumulative grade point average.
It's the seventh straight year that Wayne State beach volleyball has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award in beach volleyball and the fifth time in seven years that the Wildcat program has been named to the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll posting a GPA in the top 20 percent of their division.
Wayne State ended the 2026 season with a winning record in beach volleyball for the fifth straight season, finishing at 12-8 overall.
