Wildcat volleyball moves up two spots, now #2 in DII

Just one spot is now ahead of the Wayne State College volleyball team from returning to top spot in the nation.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, WSC moved up two spots and is now ranked second in the first regular season AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The Wildcats collected six first-place votes and garnered 1,109 points in voting from various Division II coaches across the country.

Wayne State College opened the season over the weekend with four wins at the Eckerd College Invitational in Florida, including wins over NCAA Tournament teams from last season Adelphi (NY) 3-0 and Eckerd (FL) 3-1.

Tampa (3-0) received 35 first place votes moved up a spot to #1.

Other ranked NSIC volleyball teams include #5 Concordia-St. Paul (3-1) received the final first place vote remained at the same spot, Southwest Minnesota State (4-0, up four spots) and St. Cloud State (3-1, up three spots) are both tied for seventh as #14 Minnesota Duluth (4-0) moved up two spots. Northern State (32) was also receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots.

#2 Wayne State College will next compete in the Colorado Premier Challenge in Denver, Colorado. WSC will open with #13 Chaminade (HI) on Friday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. CT followed by Wheeling (WV) at 7 p.m. CT Friday evening. The Wildcats will play two more matches on Saturday, Sept. 14.
