Wildcat women's golf wins Vegas Warrior Invite by 22 strokes

A jam packed spring season for the Wayne State College women’s golf team will be in store the next month as WSC closed out their weekend trip in Vegas.

Back at the Wildhorse Golf Club, the Winona State/Vegas Warrior Invitational showcased seven teams on Friday and Saturday, March 14 – 15.

WSC captured a first place team finish after firing rounds of 304 and 300 for a 604 two-day total. Per Wayne State Athletics, the +44-tournament score tied for the second-lowest round by a Wildcat women’s golf team for a 36-hole event.

Following Wayne State's 604 to win the Winona State/Vegas Warrior Invite, British Columbus Okanagan followed in runner-up with rounds of 314/312 (626), Westminster (UT) took third with 316/311 (627), Winona State (MN) placed fourth 319/320 (639) and North Idaho rounded out the top five teams with rounds of 372/343 (715).

Individually, the Wildcats were led by a runner-up finish from senior Abbigail Brodersen with scores of 72/75 (147) just one shot back from first place. Freshman Gaia (Sam) Stancikova (78/72) was three shots back with a 150 to place third. There were 45 golfers in action over the two-day invite.

Other scores came from freshman Camryn Johnson (t-8th - 84/73) as well as sophomore Erica Lee (75/84) and junior Saffire Sayre (79/80) who both tied for 11th.

Individual competitors were posted by sophomore Hailey Kenkel (t-25th - 93/75), junior Meg Thompson (29th - 87/84), sophomore Kylie Powers (31st - 84/89) and sophomore Olivia Ottman (41st - 98/97).

The Wayne State College women’s golf team will next travel to Smithville, Missouri, host site of the NSIC Championships (April 25 – 27) and will compete in the NSIC Preview on Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1.
