Ninth-ranked Wayne State forced 25 attack errors while hitting .287 as the Wildcats bounced back from a loss to top-ranked Minnesota Duluth and rolled to a 25-14, 25-15, 25-14 sweep of St. Cloud State Saturday at Rice Auditorium.
The Wildcats never trailed in the first set as they recorded 12 kills on their way to the early advantage. In the second set, the Wildcats forced 10 Husky attack errors while making just one error with 11 kills as the cruised to a 2-0 lead.
Wayne State completed the sweep in the third set forcing another 10 attack errors while playing 13 Wildcats to finish off the visiting Huskies.
Wayne State hit .287 for the match with 33 kills and just eight attack errors on 87 attempts while St. Cloud State was held to a .052 attack percentage on 31 kills, 25 errors and 115 attempts.
Erin Gross led Wayne State with 11 kills followed by Michaela Mestl with eight. Megan Gebhardt notched a double-double with 24 assists and 10 digs while Mestl finished with a team-high 15 digs followed by Haley Kauth with 13. Alyssa Frauendorfer tied a career-high with eight blocks in the win.
The Wildcats (17-6, 8-6 NSIC) will be on the road next weekend visiting Minnesota Crookston Friday night at 6 p.m. and Bemidji State Saturday in a 4 p.m. contest.
