Wildcats capture bronze, up eight spots in rankings

Another preseason tournament is complete for now #17 Wayne State College volleyball following the gold bracket of the Colorado Premier Challenge.

From Denver, Colorado, WSC won pool play matches on Sept. 12 against Lewis University (IL) in four sets (26-28, 25-10, 25-15, 25-18) and took a five-set thriller over then #3 MSU Denver (25-22, 19-25, 11-25, 25-20, 18-16).

During the gold bracket the following day, Wayne State College suffered a four set loss to then #15 Point Loma (CA) (20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-25) but won the third place match over Missouri Western in four sets (25-21, 17-25, 25-21, 25-21).

The Wildcats are now 6-2 on the season and recently jumped up from #25 to #17 in the most recent AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.

For the weekend, Chloe Hanel recorded 56 kills and 13 blocks (six solo) as Delaney Miller finished with 53 kills.

Mattie Kamery added 49 kills and 53 digs with four double-doubles.

Channatee Robles posted 48 kills and 39 digs with two double-dobles. She also had six service aces.

Molly Romano totaled 186 assists, 39 digs and 11 kills with two double-doubles.

Anna Borner led the back line with 61 digs and six service aces followed by Reese Johnson with 53 digs and five aces.

Laney Kathol tallied 10 blocks.

Next up for #17 Wayne State College will be NSIC road competition at Minnesota Crookston on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. and at MSU Moorhead the following afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

WSC will play their first home match of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. hosting Augustana University.
