Wildcats cruise past Minnesota State, move to 11-0

After getting coach Scott Kneifl his 400th career win Friday night, the fifth-ranked Wayne State volleyball team made quick work of Minnesota State Saturday at Rice Auditorium, posting a 25-12, 28-26, 25-17 win.

The Wayne State defense put the Mavericks in a hole early, forcing 10 attack errors and a minus-.059 hittiner percentage to roll to the first-set win. Maggie Brahmer had four kills and three blocks in the opening set and Kelsie Cada added three kills.

Wayne State had to rally from a 20-16 deficit in the second set, finishing it off with a Cada kill and a Maverick attack error, then breezed through the final set for the Saturday sweep, led by Cada’s seven kills.

Wayne State hit .339 as a team compared to .147 for the 1-9 (0-2 NSIC) Mavericks. Cada had a match-high 15 kills and Taya Beller added 13 on .522 hitting. Brahmer hit .562 with nine kills. Rachel Walker dished out 37 assists. Jessie Brandl had 12 digs and Jordan McCormick recorded two ace serves.

The 11-0 (2-0 NSIC) Wildcats host Peru State in a non-conference match Tuesday at 6 p.m.
