Wildcats fall to #8, road NSIC play begins this weekend

Following a 2-2 weekend with matches against fellow top 25 opponents, Wayne State College volleyball remains inside the top 10.

According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, the Wayne State volleyball team is ranked eighth in the latest AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released late Monday afternoon.

The Wildcats, who dropped six spots, received one first-place vote and collected 810 points in voting from various Division II coaches across the country.

#8 Wayne State is 6-2 on the season after posting wins in Denver over the weekend vs. Wheeling (W.Va.) and previously #24 Regis (now receiving votes) while falling to previously #13 Chaminade (now #7) and Dallas Baptist (now #20).

#1 Tampa (6-0) remains at the top receiving 42 first place votes along with two first place votes each for #2 MSU Denver (up one spot) and #3 West Texas A&M (up six spots).

Other NSIC teams rated in the top 25 include #5 Southwest Minnesota State (8-0, up two spots); #10 Concordia-St. Paul (5-3, down five spots); #11 Minnesota Duluth (7-0, up three spots); #12 St. Cloud State (5-2, down five spots) and #24 Northern State (8-0, previously NR). Minnesota State-Mankato (13) was also receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots.

The Wildcats open NSIC play on the road this weekend visiting MSU Moorhead Friday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. and #24 Northern State Saturday, Sept. 22 in a 3 p.m. contest.
