The Wayne State volleyball team fell five spots to No. 9 in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Divi. II Top 25 coaches poll.
Wayne State went 1-2 last week, dropping 3-1 road contests at No. 14 Augustana and at No. 11 Northern State while winning 3-0 at MSU Moorhead. They extended their streak of consecutive national rankings to 93 dating back to Sept. 28, 2009.
The poll is once again top-heavy with Northern Sun Conference and Central Region schools, with the Central Region occupying eight of the top 10 spots. NSIC schools in the top 10 include No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul, No. 2 Minnesota Duluth, No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State, No. 7 Winona State, No. 8 Augustana and No. 9 Wayne State. MIAA schools Nebraska-Kearney and Central Missouri are ranked No. 3 and No. 6, respectively.
Northern State is ranked No. 11, while MIAA schools Central Oklahoma (No. 12), Washburn (No. 18) and Northwest Missouri State (No. 20) give the Central Region 12 of the top 25 spots in this week’s poll.
The Wildcats return to the friendly confines of Rice Auditorium for the start of a five-game home stand this weekend, hosting Minot State Friday at 7 p.m. and University of Mary Saturday in a 2 p.m. contest.
