Wildcats hit provisional marks at Fort Hays meet

HAYS, Kan. — Three Wayne State throwers accounted for four NCAA provisional marks during the Alex Francis Classic on Thursday at Fort Hays State University.

Redshirt freshman thrower Mckenzie Scheil won the hammer throw and placed second in the shot put with NCAA provisional marks in both events. She won the hammer throw with a mark of 173 feet, 8 inches, and came in second place in the shot put at 45-10.

Men’s throwers Cade Kalkowski and Dylan Kaup also hit provisional marks. Kalkowski earned a second place finish at 187-10 in the hammer throw with Kaup right behind in third at 183-2, both NCAA provisional marks. Kaup also posted an eighth-place finish in the discus at 145-10.

In women’s action, Kenzie Sullivan posted a second place finish in the discus (144-5) and was seventh in the shot put (39-5). Tia Jones notched a pair of fourth-place efforts in the hammer throw (163-8) and shot put (43-3). Sarah Stang came in sixth in the hammer throw (152-7) and eighth in the shot put (39-3 3/4) while Nicole Heeren took seventh in the discus (121-1) and seventh in the hammer throw (147-0).

Ali Dykman and Hanna Lazure each tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing 4-11. Jordyn Pester was fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.72) and seventh in the 200-meter dash (26.21), Molli Vasa was ninth in the 100-meter dash (13.47) and Morgan Shearer took ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.77 seconds.

Among the Wayne State men, Matthew Nemec captured fourth place in the hammer throw at 166-2 while Jayle Hinkle posted a fourth-place mark in the shot put (48-11 3/4). Richard Sweeney came in fifth in the hammer throw (163-3).

Clay Kramper notched a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 10.83 seconds while Preston Davis came in fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.40 seconds to go with a fifth-place mark in the javelin at 163-9.

In the long jump, Robert Sullivan came in sixth at 22-1 1/2 with Mikhail Sands next in seventh at 21-11 1/2, while Aaron English placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 5-10 3/4. Alvyns Alcenord took fifth in the 100-meter dash (10.96) with Justin Rohloff ninth at 11.25 seconds.

Wayne State’s next meet is Friday and Saturday, April 5-6, at the Concordia Invitational in Seward.
