Wayne State throwers Cade Kalkowski and Dylan Kaup each hit NCAA provisional marks in the men’s weight throw to lead the Wayne State College indoor track and field teams Friday evening at the season-opening South Dakota State Preseason Open, held at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.
Kalkowski placed third in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 64 feet, 11 1/4 inches, followed by Wildcat teammate Dylan Kaup in fifth with an NCAA provisional mark of 64-0 1/2. Other top Wildcat men’s finishers were Mikhail Sands taking fourth in the long jump at 21-10 1/2.
For the Wildcat women, Kim Johnson came in sixth in the mile run (5:55.95), Hanna Lazure tied for seventh in the high jump clearing 5-1, and freshman Jade Rickard was 10th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:59.30.
Wayne State’s indoor track and field season resumes on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Scott Nisely/Doane University Invitational in Crete.
