Wayne State is one of six teams from the Northern Sun Conference under consideration in the first NCAA Super Region Four Football Rankings announced Monday.
A new format by NCAA this year for all Div. II sports has schools listed as under consideration in alphabetical order for the first regional rankings of the season. The 10 teams listed include Angelo State (8-0), Augustana (6-2), Bemidji State (6-2), Colorado School of Mines (6-2), Minnesota State (6-2), Sioux Falls (7-1), Texas A&M-Kingsville (5-1), Wayne State (6-2), West Texas A&M (5-3) and Winona State (6-2).
A total of 34 teams from the NSIC, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Lone Star Conference and Great Northwest Athletic Conference comprise Super Region Four. Of those, 28 teams will advance to the NCAA Div. II football championship this season with 12 first-round games scheduled to be played on Saturday, Nov. 19. The top seed in each super region will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
Wayne State is 6-2 on the season and 2-2 in the NSIC South Division and will host Upper Iowa at 12 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Game Saturday afternoon at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne.
