Wildcats make quick work of Minot State

Wayne State recorded 15 service aces, one shy of the single-game school record, and held Minot State to a -.128 attack percentage in an easy 25-10, 25-6 and 25-13 win in Northern Sun Conference volleyball action Friday at Rice Auditorium.

The Wildcats set the tone in the first set with six blocks, forcing 13 Minot State attack errors. Wayne State’s serve caught fire in the second set, recording six service aces, to take control of the second set. In the third set, Wayne State had nine kills without an attack error while serving up six more aces to complete the sweep.

Michaela Mestl led Wayne State with eight kills, followed by Mariah Halvorsen with six and Alyssa Frauendorfer with five. Bree Ackermann served up six aces, Mestl had four and Haley Kauth added three. Kauth led the Wildats' defense with 14 digs while setter Megan Gebhardt had 21 assists.

The Wildcats  (11-3, 3-3 NSIC) are at home again Saturday, hosting the University of Mary in a 2 p.m. matchup at Rice Auditorium.
